Conducting a Skills Scan for a Skills Bootcamp learning candidate

Last Update a year ago

A Skills Scan is used to assess the suitability of a Learner before they embark on a Skills Bootcamp program. It captures the Learner’s starting point by scoring them against each of the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) of the course. This helps identify development areas for that individual, and ensures the content of the program is relevant to the Learner’s individual needs.

This article will guide you through the process of conducting a Skills Scan.

Note: Only users with a Training Provider Admin account can conduct a Skills Scan.
Top Tip
We would highly recommend conducting a Skills Scan together with the learning candidate, rather than alone, so that you can ask them how they would score themselves against each of the competencies. You can discuss their score and agree the results, as well as add notes about the scores given.  You may even want to include their employer in the discussion if appropriate.

Step 1: Click Courses in the left-hand menu and locate the relevant course in the table.

Step 2: Click Skills Scan in the Actions column.

Step 3: Click the Create Skills Scan button.

Step 4: Enter the agreed score (a number between 0 and 10) for each of the competencies based on the learning candidate's current level of ability in the Score (0-10) column.

See Note 1.

Note 1: At the top of this screen there are two tables (as highlighted in the screenshot below).  The table on the left is an overview of the scoring for the Skills Scan and as you add your scores the values in this table will change.  The table on the right gives further guidance on what each score equates to.

Step 5 (Optional): Next to each score, click the Notes field to add any supporting comments or relevant observations.

Once you have completed the scoring for all Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours, you can either:

  • save the Skills Scan and come back to it at a later date.  To do this, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save button -  give the skills scan a name (in the Name field shown in the screenshot below), and click Save.
Or:
