Set the Minimum and Maximum RPL Thresholds for your Organisation

A Training Provider can configure Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) thresholds to ensure that funding and delivery decisions align with learner suitability and program viability.  These thresholds help automate decisions based on the RPL captured in a Skills Scan as follows:

  • If the RPL score falls below the minimum threshold, no price reduction will be applied - even if some prior learning is identified.

  • If the RPL score exceeds the maximum threshold, the program will be deemed not viable, as the learner has too much prior learning to justify the costs incurred by the training provider.

This article explains how to set and manage these RPL thresholds in the system to support consistent, compliant, and efficient program planning.

Step 1: Click on My Organisation in the left-hand menu.

Step 2: Click on the Details tab.

Step 3: Scroll down until you see the Minimum and Maximum RPL Threshold fields and click into each field to set your preferred RPL Thresholds (no decimal places).

Step 4: Click Submit.

Note: We recommend that all Training Providers have a clearly defined RPL Policy.  This policy should outline the organisation's approach to assessing prior learning, including the minimum and maximum RPL thresholds you apply, how these thresholds impact the program cost and duration, and the rationale behind your approach, ensuring consistency, transparency, and compliance with ESFA funding rules.  Having a formal policy in place helps support audit readiness and ensures that both staff and employers understand how prior learning is considered and costed.
